Storage Media – Physical Damage

A wide variety of failures can cause physical damage to storage media. Hard disks can suffer any of several mechanical failures, such as head crashes and failed motors. Physical damage always causes at least some data loss, and in many cases the logical structures of the file system are damaged as well. This causes logical damage that must be dealt with by a professional before any files can be rescued from the failed media.

IMPORTANT: Don’t Attempt Physical Repairs on Your Own!

You might be tempted in trying to take the drive apart yourself. Opening a hard disk in a normal environment can allow dust to settle on the surface, causing further damage to the platters and complicating the recovery process. You need a professional company with a Class 100 cleanroom facility to protect the media while repairs are being made. Attempting this yourself rarely works and, more often than not, they’ll make your data even more difficult to recover. To the point possibly causing er-reversible damage as to where we can’t even help you. At Protech Data Recovery your data is what matters most. So PLEASE, call us first!
